The Firefly Library

If you wish to become a second degree initiate of the Firefly Coven of the Spiral Moon...

  • Complete the Coven of the Spiral Moon first degree requirements.
  • Fill out a petition to become a student of the second degree.
  • Complete the Firefly Clergy Track, which is designed to cover many topics that Pagan clergy may encounter in their work, within a year and a day of being accepted as a second degree student.
  • You must work further to fulfill The Firefly House core values:
    • Community
      • Upholding a positive image for Paganism and Wicca within the community. In other words, publicly acting in a manner that does not give the public a negative image of Paganism and Wicca.
      • Following the coven's code of ethics.
      • Making one's self reasonably available to aid other coven members in life aspects when needed. For example, you may need help painting a room one weekend, and then you might give someone a ride to a ritual the next week.
    • Environment
      • Required one additional environmental stewardship project, be it the addition of recycling at home or in the office, making one's home green, supporting alternative energy, volunteering to clean up the local watershed or park, etc.
        • Must be separate from 10 required Service hours.
    • Education
      • Required taking of three classes or workshops per year, within or outside of Firefly.
        • For non-Firefly classes, to show what has been learned, either a presentation to the group on what was learned or a two-hundred word essay on the summary of the class.
        • There are numerous opportunities from workshops at local Pagan Pride Day's and classes held during conventions to enrolling in online or in-person classes, as well as taking classes at a local college or university.
      • Required reading of five books, three being from the initiate reading list.
        • Book topics can range from anything Craft, Wicca, or Paganism related, to any other topic applicable to one's spirituality, such as topics in science, nature, gardening, other religions, leadership, counseling, and others.
        • Required posting in initiate forum a summary of each of these books.
      • Organize and present a workshop or class on any topic.
    • Spirituality
      • Suggested daily meditation of ten minutes.
      • Suggested daily banishing ritual.
      • Suggested daily offering.
      • Required attendance and participation at 8 of 12 monthly coven-only rituals.
      • Required attendance and participation in at least 4 of 8 public rituals.
